Gambolling in long grass, cautiously discovering a pond and climbing logs, this video shows the first day out on safari for Longleat’s newest tiger cubs.

And keepers have also revealed the names for the 14-week-old girls are Anya and Ginny.

Anya is an anagram of mum Yana and is a tribute to her by her keepers. Anya means Grace which describes her quiet, sweet nature. Ginny is a tribute to dad Red and means Pure; she has a more fiery, independent personality, say the team.

The cubs under the watchful eye of mum Yana are slowly being introduced to the Drive-Through Safari at Longleat in Wiltshire following their last vaccinations.

Amy Waller, Safari Team Manager, said: “It was fantastic to see them running around following mum and really exploring the safari.

“After an hour or so mum took them in and we will be gradually increasing the time they spend in the Drive-Through over the coming weeks.”

The delightful duo were born to Yana and dad Red in July and are their third litter. Yana gave birth to four girls in 2024, and three are still at Longleat, meaning the estate has the largest family of the rare Amur tiger in the UK.

All cubs are born as part of the European Breeding programme and will go on to new homes with the aim of preserving the species for future generations; there are currently thought to be only 450 Amur tigers remaining in the wild.

Tiger Territory is a short drive away from Wolf Wood which saw the wolf pups born to Meg earlier in the summer exploring their area from last month.

Amy said: “Just like the pups, the cubs aren’t familiar with cars so we are asking guests to take extra care when driving through and as always our keepers will be in their patrol vehicles keeping a close eye too.”
