They’re girls! Delighted keepers have revealed the gender of the Amur Tiger twins born at Longleat in Wiltshire this summer.
The duo had their first vaccinations enabling keepers to confirm the gender and ensure the girls were fit and healthy.
Amy Waller, Safari Team Manager, said: “They are both doing really well and to have girls is a fantastic boost for the European breeding programme and means they can stay with mum Yana for longer.
“We haven’t yet chosen names as we were waiting to know their gender, so the keepers are now doing some research and watching their characteristics emerge before choosing.
“One of the girls is very mischievous and into everything while the other is more cautious.”
The girls may be seen from time to time in the drive-through safari if Yana decides to take them outside in the paddock.
They were born to mum Yana and dad Red in July, and they are their third litter. Yana gave birth to four girls in 2024, and three are still at Longleat, meaning the estate has the largest family of tigers in the UK.
All cubs are born as part of the European Breeding programme, and where recommended, will go on to new homes with the aim of preserving the species for future generations.
There are thought to be only 450 Amur tigers remaining in the wild.
The arrival of the twins was part of a baby boom across the estate, which is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Drive-Through safari being the first created outside of Africa in 1966. Other high-profile births include capybaras, wolf pups, cotton top tamarin, red panda cub and flamingo chicks.
